Original title: Sicarios económicos (trad. Eleanor Griffis, 2023)
When did Peru break down, when did the world go astray? How many lives will it take for us to become aware of the injustices and their hidden connections?
A country’s crisis can no longer be explained without the globalized interdependence of all the other countries, or without understanding the uncertain present in the light of the recent past.
Pedro Morillas’ life and professional experience demonstrates how he suffered first hand from financial corruption. Its presence in his country, in all of Latin America and the planet. Neoliberalism is not only an economic theory but it also masks the practice of a ‘savage capitalism’ that, through hidden powers, uses ‘economic hit men’ that endanger the evolution of democracy and social progress for everyone everywhere towards greater equity. A book that is as brave and committed as its author.
Baltasar Garzón
Magistrate. Attorney. Human Rights activist
This valuable book is an extremely interesting read from start to finish. It moves from autobiography to the passionate telling and analysis of reality today and the prospects for evolution on the planet. It is a clear and complete view of what is and has been happening in the world in recent decades and of what is to come. The attacks the author received as a businessman are told within the context of greater trends, as much as dramas caused by humans as the huge challenges for the future.
